American mountaineer was trapped in a cave in Turkey, teams launched a rescue effort
In Mersin’s Anamur district, the team continues to wait as a precaution in the area where the American climber, who fell ill in the cave he descended from and was treated with medication, will ascend.
American Mark Dickey (40), who went down to the Morca Cave on September 3 for an exploration study and suffered stomach bleeding at a depth of approximately 1276 meters, was treated with medication with the help of the teams.
AFAD, UMKE, 112 Emergency Health and gendarmerie teams are kept in the region as a precaution for Dickey, who stated that his health condition is improving and that he wants to go to the surface with the group accompanying him.
Members of the Turkish Caving Federation and mountaineering experts from different countries accompany the teams that follow the process in the coordination tent set up by AFAD so that the group can safely exit the cave.
Since the cave is at an altitude of 2,200 meters in the Taurus Mountains, a helicopter is available in the region.
A mountaineering group of 14 people, including foreign speleologists, descended to Morca Cave for exploration, and a team was dispatched to the region upon the notice that Dickey, one of the team members, had stomach bleeding.
