The sudden passing of Benjamin “Ben” Taft Farmer has left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Described as a young man always ready to lend a helping hand, Senior Trooper-Pilot Benjamin Farmer, aged 37, tragically lost his life in an accident at home, with his beloved wife Courtney (Riggs) by his side.
Born on July 23, 1986, in Bristol, Tenn, Ben was the youngest of three children born to Neal and Donna Farmer. From a young age, it was evident that Ben possessed extraordinary talents and a natural ability to excel in whatever he set his mind to. He was intellectually gifted and displayed great dedication in his pursuits.
After graduating from Lebanon High School in 2005, Ben embarked on a journey of service and commitment to his community. He volunteered with the Cedar Bluff Auxiliary police unit while pursuing his education at Southwest Virginia Community College, where he graduated from their criminal justice program in 2007.

Apart from his professional achievements, Ben’s spiritual journey was equally important to him. Devout and principled, he professed his Christian faith early in life and remained an active member of the local Baptist church in Nickelsville, dedicating himself to worshiping his Savior, Jesus Christ.
In 2016, Ben and Courtney began their loving journey of marriage, settling on their farm in Nickelsville and raising their three beautiful children: Bridgette, Callan, and Cameron. As a husband and father, Ben poured his heart into his family, creating a loving and nurturing home.
To honor the memory of Benjamin Farmer, a celebration of life will take place at Green Valley Baptist Church in Lebanon, Va., on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 5 p.m., officiated by Rev. Darryl Fletcher and Rev. Steve Collins. Prior to the service, friends and family are welcome to visit the church from 3 to 5 p.m.
