Bindi Irwin Surgery
Endometriosis is a condition that affects more than one in 10 women, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition to causing pain during periods and bowel movements, endometriosis can also cause pelvic bloating, abdominal pain, nausea and fatigue.
Bindi Irwin, 24, has openly revealed her battle with endometriosis in a heartfelt social media post on International Women’s Day. She says she decided to speak out about her condition because “staying quiet was no longer an option.” The daughter of conservationist Steve Irwin is urging other women to share their experiences with endometriosis as she seeks treatment for the condition.
Irwin posted an emotional photo of herself in a hospital bed, along with a caption detailing her experience with endometriosis and the reasons for speaking out about her condition. She wrote that she’d been suffering from “insurmountable fatigue, pain & nausea” for a decade and urged her followers to share their stories with her.
In her Instagram post, Irwin said that she’d had “a lot of people tell me that this was all in my head,” adding that she felt a responsibility to spread the word and help women who have the same symptoms. Eventually, she decided to have surgery to remove the lining of her uterus as well as the tissue that was causing her pain.
She writes that she’s been through a “very long road” and has been able to put a smile on her face thanks to the support she’s received. She’s had to fight to keep herself positive and hide the fact that she’s been in pain for so many years.
But now, Irwin has found new strength and is putting a spotlight on her disease to raise awareness for the condition that has affected millions of women around the world. Her ten-year battle with the condition caused her to feel “insurmountable fatigue, pain and nausea.”
In the wake of her revelation, she has received a tremendous amount of support from friends, family and fans. In fact, her brother Robert commented on the post and called her a hero for opening up about her experience with endometriosis so that other women who are struggling can know they aren’t alone.
Bindi also received a ton of messages from her followers and fellow celebrities about her decision to reveal her struggle with endometriosis publicly, all of whom have sent their best wishes as she recovers after surgery.
The surgery was performed by Dr Tamer Seckin from the Seckin Endometriosis Center at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He removed thirty-seven lesions and a cyst known as a chocolate cyst, which is filled with menstrual blood.
Throughout her post, Irwin praised her doctor and the nurses who helped her get through the process. She also thanked her family for supporting her during this difficult time. She also thanked her daughter Grace for showing her the importance of her mother’s health.
Irwin’s post comes on the heels of several other celebrities who have revealed their struggles with the condition and shared their stories to encourage other women to seek medical attention. Among them are singer Kelly Clarkson and Nashville-based Internet phenom Doug the Pug, who has over 3.5 million followers on Instagram.
