Fernando Fred Lozano Obituary
Fernando Fred Lozano Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 12, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on November 19, 1938, Fernando, known affectionately as Fred, left this world surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home. He was a man of great faith, love, integrity, and compassion.
Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Annie Lozano, and their children: Paul Lozano, Cindy Granados (Joel), Christy Ramirez, Melly Trakas (Ted), and Diane Mazuca (Tim). He was also blessed with 32 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his sister, Sara Barron, brother-in-law Sam Cortez (Eva), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Rosie Jackson (David), his parents Fernando and Sara Lozano, and his in-laws Samuel and Lois Cortez.
Fred was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church for over 56 years and served in various capacities during that time. He had a particular passion for his work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Nursing Home Ministry, where he selflessly helped those in need. Fred proudly served in the US Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the game, often jokingly remarking, “I putt like a gorilla.” Fred had a great sense of humor and loved sharing jokes with others.
Having dedicated 38 years of service, Fred retired as the chief engineer from KSAT-12 TV station. He often spoke of his belief that one day he would join the “big TV station up in the sky,” and now he has.
Fred lived by the Lord’s call to serve others and demonstrated it every day of his life. He generously gave his time and heart to everyone he encountered, making sure that the well of his love never ran dry.
Funeral services for Fred will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (159 Camino Santa Maria) on Monday, June 19, 2023. Visitation will commence at 6:00 pm, followed by the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 10:30 am, also at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Fred will be laid to rest at San Jose Burial Park.
In lieu of funeral flowers, Fred had expressed his wish for donations to be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. If you would like to express your condolences or share memories, you may sign the online guestbook at www.missionparks.com.
