Born as the middle son to Lillian and the late Marcus Nishikawa, Jason’s journey was filled with achievements and contributions that left a lasting impact on the real estate industry in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Who is Jason Yuzo Nishikawa?
Jason’s educational pursuits led him to graduate with pride from `Iolani School and Santa Clara University, where he earned a degree in civil engineering. With his professional engineer credentials, he gained valuable experience as a civil engineer at Sato and Associates. However, Jason’s true calling awaited him, and in 2000, he made a significant career shift by becoming a licensed real estate agent.
Joining Marcus and Associates, a firm established by his father in 1971, Jason’s talents as a residential agent shone brightly from the very beginning. His dedication and excellence earned him the Aloha Aina Newcomer of the Year award in 2001 and HBR’s prestigious People’s Choice award in 2006. He was recognized as one of Hawaii’s top 100 Agents by Hawaii Business Magazine, cementing his position as a respected leader in the field.

In addition to his real estate endeavors, Jason, along with friends and business partners Derek Lock and Keslie Hui, founded HNL Development in 2017. The acronym “HNL” represented both their love for Honolulu and the first letter of each partner’s last name – Hui, Nishikawa, and Lock. Their commitment to affordable housing led to the successful completion of multiple projects that positively impacted many families.
Outside of his professional life, Jason Nishikawa was cherished for his magical personality. He could light up any room he entered and brought people together through the Udaman Golf Club, fostering friendships and camaraderie. As a 3rd generation season ticket holder and avid UH Football fan, he found joy in supporting his favorite team. Jason’s love for life was further demonstrated through his trips to Las Vegas with his friend Danny and others, enjoying games of poker and moments of shared laughter.
