Kapamilya star Awra Briguela, whose real name is Mcneal Briguela, was arrested on Thursday morning after being involved in a brawl outside a bar in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City, according to a source at the Makati Police.
A video of the incident, captured by netizens and uploaded on social media, showed Briguela engaged in a fistfight with a group of people. The 19-year-old actor-comedian was subsequently detained and remains in custody.
The police investigator, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that charges have been filed against Briguela but declined to provide further details about the incident.
One of the videos, originally posted on Instagram by @limetedryuu, was later re-uploaded on social media after the user deactivated their account. The footage depicted authorities arriving at the scene and apprehending Briguela, who was then handcuffed and taken to the police station. As of now, specific information regarding the incident is still unknown.
Content creator Zayla Nakajima shed some light on the incident, stating that Briguela had come to her defense against a group of men who allegedly attempted to sexually harass her. Nakajima narrated that the incident occurred during a night of bar-hopping in Makati, specifically at Bolt Hole.
In a now-deleted Facebook post, Nakajima described feeling uncomfortable and unsafe at Bolt Hole, emphasizing that she and her friends encountered the alleged harassers there. She shared that she had been subjected to harassment, including unwanted touching, prompting Briguela to intervene and defend her and their friend.
According to Nakajima, a heated argument ensued between Briguela and two men, eventually escalating into a physical altercation. She maintained that one of the men initiated the violence by throwing the first punch, prompting Briguela to fight back in self-defense.
Nakajima highlighted the importance of taking a stand against such behavior, especially during Pride Month, and expressed her intention to file a strong case against the alleged abuser. She also urged friends and supporters to report any degrading content related to the incident and criticized influencers who had misinterpreted the situation.
As of now, there has been no statement issued by Briguela’s camp or the Makati City Police Station regarding the matter. It is worth noting that this incident occurred during Pride Month, which is a time of celebration for the LGBT+ community.
