Jessica, who is the fourth-ranked women’s tennis player in the world, wrote about her mother’s condition for the first time in a piece that was published Tuesday by The Players’ Tribune. She told the story of how she and her sister, Kelly, performed CPR on Kim and saved her life after she had gone into cardiac arrest while she was asleep.

She writes that she chose to share her mother’s story publicly because she wanted to let the world know that it was possible for a woman to overcome a serious health problem. She also noted that her mother had never spoken about the incident and was shocked to find out how much she was affected by it.

“It was a very tough year for my family, but we are very grateful for all of the love and support from everyone around us,” she wrote. She also asked fans to respect her privacy.

She has been able to spend more time with her kids, her grandchildren and her family’s dog, she wrote. She has also been focusing on her tennis career, which has earned her a spot in the top four of the WTA Tour rankings.
