Kirsten Storms has had to deal with some pretty crazy situations as her General Hospital character Maxie Jones, but the actress seems to be a tough cookie. The 37-year-old star recently revealed that she had to undergo brain surgery to remove a cyst. Storms took to social media Friday to share her update with fans and reassure them that the surgery was a success.
Storms began her career in acting as a child model and then moved on to television. She landed her first big role in the Disney Channel movie Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century. From there, she moved on to daytime dramas where she became a fan favorite as Belle Black on Days of Our Lives. In 2005, she landed the part of Mariah Maximilliana “Maxie” Jones on General Hospital. She’s been there ever since.
In the series of Instagram Story videos, Storms appeared to be in good spirits as she detailed her surgery and recovery. She started by saying that she had surgery to drain and remove a cyst. She then went on to say that the cyst was found in the lower portion of her brain and that it was removed. She also wanted to let fans know that she was going to clear up a few things before the internet “goes wild with rumors.”
Storms added that what they drained and removed was not cancerous, and she thanked her friends and family for their support. She also said that she was looking forward to spending time on her knitting projects while recovering. The former Disney Channel star vowed to be back to her normal self soon.
During the video, she was accompanied by her friend and former GH co-star Emme Rylan (Lulu). She continued to share her updates and let fans know that the surgery was a success. She also gave a shout-out to her doctor for being so great.
The last clip that Storms posted showed her in the passenger seat of a car with Rylan, who was wearing a neck brace. She then said that she was headed home to continue her recovery. Storms concluded the video with an emoji of a heart that is super-positive.
General Hospital fans have been extremely supportive of the show’s newest cast member as she takes time to focus on her health. It’s unclear when she’ll return to her GH gig, but it looks like Storms is well on her way to a full recovery.
In the meantime, she’s soaking up the sunshine and doing some much-needed rest. We hope to see her back onscreen in Port Charles soon. In the mean time, share your well-wishes with her in the comments section below.
