Madeline Kingsbury Obituary: Allegations of Domestic Abuse and Legal Action
Madeline Kingsbury disappeared in March of 2023, and her body was discovered June 7. The woman’s ex-boyfriend and the father of her children, Adam Fravel, has been arrested on probable cause in connection with her death. He was able to provide the authorities with information about her last moments, which has helped police in their search. The family of Madeline is now mourning the loss of a beloved daughter and mother.
The case has shocked the close-knit community of Winona, Minnesota. The disappearance prompted panic and fear among many residents, with her family seeking answers as the days went by without any news. Her parents have been caring for her two young children since she vanished, but they have been struggling to cope with the loss.
A friend of Kingsbury’s called police after she didn’t hear from her that day. The friend reportedly saw her minivan in the driveway, but when she knocked on the door there was no answer. She knew that Kingsbury was scheduled to work in Rochester that day, and she feared for her safety.
Authorities searched Kingsbury’s home in Winona, and they found her wallet, purse, and phone. They also contacted her employer and learned that she was supposed to be working in Rochester that day. Police also searched her car and found a fanny pack, and her passport was inside it. They did not find any evidence of a struggle and there were no messages on her phone or any calls to her sister.
On the morning of her disappearance, Kingsbury dropped her children off at day care in Winona. She was supposed to pick them up at 10:30 a.m. She texted her boyfriend to say that she was leaving and would be back home around noon, but he did not receive any reply. He told authorities that he left their house in her van and drove to his parents’ home in Mabel, which is north of Winona.
The complaint revealed harrowing text messages between Fravel and Kingsbury in September 2021 that indicated domestic abuse.
The mom’s first message accused Fravel of putting his hands around her neck and pushing her in front of their children.
“You know I’m really not okay with or over the fact that you put your hand around my neck and pushed me down in front of the kids earlier so don’t,” Kingsbury’s initial text read.
“Not okay with at all but especially with them there.”
Fravel replied: “You’ll adjust.”
At that time, he planned to spend the day moving items between his parents’ house and Midwest Storage in Winona. He had a van that would be suitable for transporting the items. He did not return to the couple’s home that afternoon, and he told law enforcement that he assumed Kingsbury was going to work in Rochester.
On Wednesday, a body was found north of Mabel, and the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner confirmed that it was Kingsbury’s. The investigation led to the arrest of Fravel on Thursday. Police will continue to investigate the crime. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison. In the meantime, his family has been trying to move on. They’ve been holding a series of public events and have been expressing their gratitude to the community for its support. They’ve promised to continue fighting for justice for Madeline and her kids.
