Authorities revealed that Megan worked as an escort and advertised her services on Craigslist during her time in New York. Pertel commented, “She was a victim of her lifestyle, truly of her lifestyle. Nobody wants to do what they’re doing in that role, but that’s where she found herself, unfortunately. And that should not dictate how long it’s taken or not taken to get answers.”

Rex Heuermann was apprehended in Massapequa late Thursday, and investigators were present at a residence linked to the case on Friday.

Heuermann, a married individual with two children, is a licensed architect working for a small Manhattan-based firm. The firm specializes in store buildouts and renovations for major retailers, offices, and apartments, according to its website.

Throughout the investigation into the bodies found near Gilgo Beach, investigators have repeatedly stated that it is unlikely that a single person is responsible for all the victims.

The news of a suspect being taken into custody comes just a day after state police responded to a report of skeletal remains discovered in a wooded area off the Southern State Parkway in Islip. Authorities are planning a briefing near the site on Friday afternoon. It is currently unclear if these remains are connected to the Gilgo Beach case.
