It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Michael Tveit, a beloved resident of Warroad, Minnesota. On Friday, July 21, 2023, Michael tragically left us, leaving his family, friends, and community in mourning. He was a devoted and loving young dad who adored his children beyond measure.
Michael’s life revolved around his family, particularly his sons and his wife, Darnell. Even in his absence, his love and impact will endure in their hearts forever. He was a cherished member of the coaching staff at Warroad Boys High School Hockey, where he served as a role model for the young men he mentored. His teammates knew him affectionately as “Tweeter,” a nickname that highlighted his gentle and caring nature, akin to a huge teddy bear. On the rink, he stood as a guardian for his team, fiercely defending his black and gold uniform brethren in any situation.
Prior to his coaching role, Michael pursued a career as a WELDER FABRICATOR at Case New Holland, showcasing his skills in Welding Technologies, which he studied at Alexandria Technical College. His educational journey began at Warroad Senior High School, where he completed his secondary education. His roots were deeply embedded in Warroad, Minnesota, where he resided until his untimely departure.

Michael shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Darnell Tveit, and garnered immense love and respect from all who crossed paths with him. He was a shining example of kindness, compassion, and dedication, both on and off the ice.
In light of this tragic loss, a GoFundMe page has been established by TJ Oshie to support the Tveit family during this challenging time. The public is encouraged to lend their prayers and support to the entire Tveit family as they navigate the grief of losing Michael.
This fundraiser is to raise money for Darnell Tveit and her three boys Carson, Cooper and Cullen, who tragically lost their husband and father, Michael, unexpectedly in his sleep on July 21st. Michael’s whole world revolved around Darnell and his boys and we know it still will as he watches over them from above.
Tveiter (Tweeter) as we all call him was also a great mentor to the numerous boys he has coached as a member of the Warroad Boys Highschool Hockey coaching staff. As a teammate in his High School days Tveiter was known as the big teddy bear but also a protector of the team on the ice. A big brother that would stick up for anyone dawning the black and gold. March 8, 2023 marked the 20th Aniversary of when Tveiter and his teammates won the State Championship.
Tveiter was loved by everyone he came in contact with. Growing up in Warroad, MN the community is a big family and words can not explain the loss our Warroad Family has suffered after hearing this tragic news.
If you have the means, any donation would be greatly appreciated as this beautiful family navigates life without Michael.
Thank you and God Bless
