Tragic Kodi Moeller Car Accident: The Central Lee High School Student-Athlete Passed Away
A tragic accident occurred on Saturday in Lee County, resulting in the death of a teenager from Donnellson. Kodi Moeller, a 16-year-old student-athlete at Central Lee High School, was driving near the intersection of Highway 16 and 205th Avenue, just north of St. Paul. The collision took place approximately a mile east of the Highway 16 and Highway 218 intersection.
According to the Iowa State Patrol’s report, the accident involved a waste hauler and Moeller’s vehicle. The waste hauler, a 2003 GMC Envoy driven by Levy A. Whaley, 21, from Mt. Pleasant and working for WEMIGA Waste Management, was traveling westbound on Highway 16. Moeller was traveling northbound on 205th Avenue when the two vehicles collided. The impact occurred on the passenger side of Moeller’s vehicle as it was struck broadside by Whaley’s vehicle. Both vehicles came to a rest in the northwest ditch.
Emergency services, including Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, Lee County EMS, West Point Fire and Rescue, and Air Evac services, responded to the scene to provide assistance. Funeral arrangements for Kodi Moeller are currently pending at Schmitz Lynk Funeral Home in West Point.
Due to the accident, Central Lee High School’s scheduled game on Saturday evening at Banks Field, University of Iowa, was canceled. Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber confirmed the fatality resulting from the collision on Iowa Highway 16 and 205th Avenue, as reported by the Iowa State Patrol.
Levi A. Whaley, 21, from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, was operating the semi involved in the accident. According to the police report, a 2003 GMC Envoy was traveling northbound on 205th Avenue and failed to yield at the intersection, colliding with the front passenger side of the semi. The driver of the Envoy was ejected from the vehicle at some point during the collision. The police mentioned that the driver of the Envoy, who unfortunately lost their life due to the injuries sustained, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The identity of the driver has not been disclosed pending notification of the family.
