A Life Well-Lived:
Vanessa is survived by her devoted long-time partner, Pete, and her beloved sons, Carter and Graydon, who were a constant source of pride and unconditional love. She is also survived by her brother, Alex Taylor, along with his wife, Natalie, and their sons, Brian and Nick, of Ben Avon, Pennsylvania. Additionally, Vanessa held a deep bond with her best friend, Tarah Williams, her husband, Dave, and their son, Christian Carlow, who was like a third son to her.
Early Life and Personal Journey:
Born on April 3, 1968, in Orange, Texas, Vanessa’s family moved to Pittsburgh during her formative years. She graduated from Sewickley Academy, forging lifelong memories with her cherished family and friends. Known as the “Steeler” lady, Vanessa was a dedicated and enduring fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, even during the challenging times. She ventured west for college, attending the University of California, Irvine, where she first encountered Pete. In 1996, Vanessa relocated from Southern California to Richmond, Virginia, to pursue career opportunities and be closer to her loved ones. Throughout her life, Vanessa explored various professional paths, including roles as a retail buyer in the clothing and consumer electronics industry, as well as being a successful entrepreneur with multiple businesses. In recent years, Vanessa served as the executive director of the Richmond Area Municipal Contractors Association and the Precast Concrete Association of Virginia. However, her greatest joy in life came from caring for her cherished “boys” – Pete, Carter, and Graydon.
Passions, Adventures, and Unforgettable Moments:
Vanessa had an unwavering enthusiasm for life and took pleasure in hosting dinner parties, showcasing her love for cooking, wine, and entertaining. For nearly 15 years, she regularly organized “Bubbly Night” gatherings, where lifelong mom friends gathered to enjoy bubbly beverages and uninhibited quality time together.
Vanessa’s love for travel was ignited at a young age, leading her to explore destinations such as England, Spain, Australia, and numerous places across the U.S. and the Caribbean. She shared this passion with her boys, creating lifelong memories through trips to the U.S. Virgin Islands, Green Turtle Cay, California Wine Country, the Grand Canyon, and Hawaii. Vanessa’s desire to create lasting memories for her loved ones through travel was fulfilled without fail. In 2021, she and Pete pursued a dream for their future by purchasing a home in Roatan, Honduras. As a devoted beach lover, Vanessa found solace and joy in basking in the warm sun, enjoying the pool, and immersing herself in her favorite books.
Celebrating Vanessa’s Life:
A private Celebration of Life will beheld to honor Vanessa L. Patterson and the profound impact she had on those around her. In lieu of flowers, donations to organizations close to Vanessa’s heart, such as Comfort Zone Camp or Full Circle Grief Center, are encouraged.

Vanessa was a force. Having attend RAMCA meetings and partnered with her on so many fundraisers, Vanessa was the ultimate host. I will miss our candid conversations about life, work and family. She was one in a million. May the family find comfort in knowing Vanessa enriched the lives of so many including mine.

I was blessed to know Vanessa for just a short time having met her as a fellow owner at the Meridian in Roatan. She was a sweet person with a beautiful smile. We are all saddened by her passing at such a young age and praying for comfort her beloved “boys”.
